I'm more positive and motivated
30 kg overweight, depressed, lonely, unhappy, always tired and lacking motivation, I didn’t like how I looked or felt, but doing something about it was way too hard. Even getting out of bed was a chore. Especially on weekends.
A chance meeting with a former workmate, now a Curves coach, planted a seed. A few weeks later I made the call and joined Curves – although I wasn’t convinced it would work for me. Me going to a gym three times a week? As if!!!
I don’t know when it started, but bit by bit things began to turn around. Thanks to the wonderful staff who were so friendly, encouraging and motivating, I realised I was actually looking forward to going to gym – even on Saturday mornings! “It’s only ½ an hour – it’s hardly worth going” became “It’s only ½ an hour – and I know I’ll feel great!”.
12 months on, I’ve dropped 21 kg and 2 dress sizes. I’m two thirds of the way to my final goal having achieved many mini goals along the way. But the biggest change is in my mind. Instead of reaching for chocolate I grab an apple and go for a walk if I’m feeling flat. I’m cooking meals at home using fresh vegetables. I make much more sensible choices with regards to food – and still allow myself the occasional treat.
I’m more positive and motivated, I sleep better, I eat better and I move more. I have some great new friends. And people have started noticing how much happier I am.All thanks to Curves – where you really are only one workout away from a good mood!
